Plans for Aldbourne orchard bear fruit

Aldbourne will soon have a community orchard, thanks to a grant from Hills Waste under the Landfill Community Fund.

Members of volunteer group Village Green are busy planning for the tree planting in pocket orchards in the village.

The first planting will take place at the beginning of March and, combined with the second next autumn, more than 60 trees will be planted by the group.

Aldbourne garden designer Isabelle Van Lennep is leading the group. She said: “I believe that getting all of these things in place from the outset means that, regardless of the weather, our trees stand a good chance of getting away to a great start.

“I have a young family and I’m sure that as they grow up they will see Aldbourne’s community orchard as a thing of beauty, and enjoy the fun of collecting fruit too.”

Residents and businesses have been invited to sponsor a tree.
