YOUNGSTERS at Southbroom Infants School witnessed a rocket launch in their playground.

This week the pupils are learning about science and taking part in various activities.

On Monday, Mad Jack of the Science Boffins group gave an assembly to all the pupils. Then there were workshops with Years 1 and 2 where they made paper helicopters followed by the launch of a rocket.

Caroline Jackson, head of school, said: “The first time the rocket was launched it didn’t go up very far but the second time was more substantial, it went about 30 feet in the air.

“The children were very excited about it.”

Other activities taking place this week included designing an invention to make something easier at home and parents came in to help pupils make a tower out of spaghetti and marshmallows.
