Devizes Carnival top of grants list

Devizes Carnival and other community organisations have been awarded grants totalling more than £5,000 by Devizes Area Board.
Devizes Outdoor Celebrat-ory Arts (DOCA), which organises the town’s carnival, was given a grant of £2,900 which will be used to run costume designing workshops.
Dave Buxton, artistic director of DOCA, said up to 250 children and their families were expected to make costumes for the event.
The grant was the remainder of £5,000 which was approved by the Area Board last September.
Cycle Devizes has been given a grant of £1,000 to run an event in June during National Bike Week. The group plans to hold the event on The Green where there will also be stalls and information to encourage cycling.
Rowde Village Shop was awarded £999 to make alterations to the premises.
Market Lavington Parish Council was granted £275 to buy equipment for the Friday Youth Club.
