Wiltshire Police appeal for information after break-in at Dutch Cottage

Wiltshire Police are seeking information about a burglar who ate a large chunk of coffee cake after breaking into a tea room in Chippenham.

The break-in happened at the Dutch Cottage in St Mary Street between 10.45pm on Monday and 8.30am on Tuesday.

The burglar - or burglars – got in at the back of the premises near the United Reformed Church car park.

Items were smashed as the raider made a messy search of the tea room before escaping with a small quantity of cash, including £10 from the tips jar, which was also broken.

And the owners found that a piece of coffee cake had been eaten.

PC Verity Ruffell, of Chippenham Police, said: “Whoever carried out this burglary left a lot of mess behind, which has upset the owners and staff.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual or suspicious late on Monday night or early on Tuesday, or who has any information about who was involved, to call me at Wiltshire Police on 101.

“Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
