Chippenham Hospital food is given a revamp
Health bosses say they have listened to people’s views and provided a revamped restaurant at Chippenham Community Hospital.
The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust reduced opening hours and hot food options after it took over the hospital at Rowden Hill in June 2011.
Customers were unhappy and, after feedback, managers tried the facility for themselves and have now made a series of major improvements.
Opening times at The Grapevine have been extended from four to six hours a day, from 8.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday.
They may be extended again if there is enough demand for the restaurant from visitors and residents.
On Friday, 150 members of staff were given a free lunch to sample the new menu.
Customers have access to a free internet café and can watch the news and sport on a large screen TV.
Nerissa Vaughan, chief executive of the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I am really pleased with the improvements to the restaurant and I hope staff and visitors will come and try the new menu for themselves. We have listened to our customers and changes are based on what staff and local people have told us they want. I hope the restaurant becomes a focal point for the local community, as well as our staff.”
Also on Friday, the X-ray service was officially opened after a £130,000 refurbishment. The old X-ray machine broke down last February and could not to be repaired due to its age – it was 18 years old.
The X-ray service came back into action in November last year after a new machine was bought and new lighting and flooring was installed.
A mobile X-ray machine was used at the hospital to serve minor injury unit patients and some GP patient referrals while the work was carried out. Other patients went to X-ray clinics at Trowbridge Hospital and the Royal United Hospital, Bath.
Radiology manager Gail Powell said: “I am delighted that the X-ray facilities are fully operational again and that we are able to offer patients a more modern and comfortable environment to suit their needs.
“This is a big investment by the local NHS in the service and a sign of commitment to X-ray at Chippenham.”
