Gritters ready to roll as Wiltshire braced for more snow
2:03pm Tuesday 22nd January 2013 in News By Katie Smith
More snow is expected in rush hour and into the evening
Gritters are concentrating their efforts back on to primary and secondary routes as more snow is forecast for later today, and this evening.
Teams have been working 12-hour shifts to treat treacherous roads and keep the county moving and have used 3,070 tonnes of salt since Friday.
The last few days has seen them concentrate their efforts on rural roads, pavements and estate roads.
Community support was also been welcomed with 50 farmers assisting with snow ploughing and blowing and many town and parish councils have activated their local snow plans, which were developed with help and resources from Wiltshire Council
Adrian Hampton, head of local highways and streetscenes, said: “Our control room has been open since Friday and is responding to any reports that come in.
“Street cleaning resources will continue to focus on pavements and town centres, while our gritters will be out on primary and secondary routes throughout the evening.
“The snow should peter out by 7am and the snow ploughs will be back out onto the roads.”
