The 33-year-old pedestrian fatally injured after being struck by a car on the A4 at Fyfield, near Marlborough, yesterday evening has been named locally as Mark Staddon, son of driving instructor Lavinia Staddon.

Villagers said Mr Staddon lived on Bath Road, close to where the accident happened at 7.20pm.

Police say he was walking along the A4 when he was in collision with a Jaguar car. PC Steve Cox, of the serious collision investigation team at Wiltshire Police, said the Jaguar was travelling in the direction of Marlborough when the collision happened.

The Jaguar was driven by a 59-year-old man from the Marlborough area.

The air ambulance was tasked to the scene and landed on the A4 but Mr Staddon was pronounced dead at the scene.

The A4 was closed for three and a half hours to allow police to carry out an investigation. Any witnesses are asked to call PC Ecclestone at Wiltshire Police on 101.
