Essential journeys only warning as ice to follow

People in Wiltshire are being urged to only make journeys if they are essential as freezing weather is expected to cause widespread ice through the night and tomorrow.

Freezing temperatures coupled with possible further snow flurries, mean roads and pavements could be hazardous.

Wiltshire Council is continuing to salt the primary routes and teams will carry on monitoring the situation .

Pedestrians and motorists are urged to take care if they decide to travel. Streetscene teams have been clearing some footways and town and parish councils have activated their local snow plans using salt and equipment Wiltshire Council has provided There is disruption to many services and more details can be found on the front page of Wiltshire Council's website - www.wiltshire.gov.uk.

Wiltshire Council’s twitter account @wiltshirewinter will be giving up-to-date information on the conditions and affected areas.

With the weather expected to remain below freezing for some time, people are being urged to continue keeping an eye on vulnerable neighbours and friends to check they are alright.

I would urge Wiltshire Council to stop talking to us like we were helpless individuals and realise that we can cope with these conditions without their nannying advice.
