A Chippenham primary school, which has collected more supermarket vouchers than any other school in the town, was thrilled to launch a girls’ football team as a result.
The new club at Ivy Lane School is thanks to the donation of more than 31,255 Active Kids vouchers from Sainsbury’s shoppers.
Children are now playing with their new sports equipment, including football goals, skipping ropes, beanbags, an agility ladder, netball kits, balls and raquets.
Headteacher Chris Cannings said the new equipment was encouraging active play during breaktimes and had allowed the school to extend its after-school sports clubs, which had been oversubscribed since the Olympics.
He said: “We are amazed and delighted that parents and grandparents have made so much effort to support the school.
"All our pupils are making really good use of the new equipment.”
More than £1.5m worth of Active Kids equipment and experiences has been donated to Wiltshire Education Authority since the Sainsbury’s scheme ws launched in 2005.
