Pupils at Redland Prim-ary School in Chippenham designed T-shirts to watch The Hobbit: An Unexpec-ted Journey at the cinema.

Kingfisher and Falcon classes have been studying the book by J R R Tolkien throughout this term as part of their literacy work.

There are displays of creative writing and art in their classrooms and the 68 pupils, aged nine to 11, rounded off their learning by going to a cinema in Bristol to see the film on Monday.

Headteacher Hilary Lambert said: “At their age we have got to choose books that will interest and stimulate the children.

“The Hobbit did that. It’s a book that grips children and enables them to enjoy good literature and encourages them to read and have a love of reading.

“All the T-shirts were different and we ironed them at school.

“The children found some differences between the book and the film but the film was true to the book enough for them to enjoy it.”
