TWO guests at the Littlecote House Hotel near Ramsbury had their bank cards and driving licences stolen, prompting Wiltshire Police to issue a warning to all hotel guests over the festive period.
The victims received a phone call from someone claiming to be from their bank who advised them that there had been fraudulent withdrawals from their account and that they needed their PIN number to progress the investigation further.
Their PIN numbers were given to the caller and minutes later money was withdrawn from their accounts.
This is just one example from a number of reports Wiltshire Police have received regarding thefts from rooms at hotels in the county. PC Lisa Draper from the Crime Management Unit in Swindon said: “Please be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to reception.
“Also, never give out your PIN number to anyone. Legitimate calls from banks or building societies will never ask for your PIN number. If you have been a victim of theft or fraud please contact your local policing team.”
