Town councillors have agreed to spend more than £6,000 on events in Chippenham next year.

The town council’s strategy and resources committee agreed to set aside £2,000 towards of Battle of Chippenham, a civil war re-enactment event on the weekend of July 6 and 7 next year.

This will be held in Monkton Park and involve a large living history site and drills. Lectures and school visits are set to take place in the run up to the event.

The committee also agreed to pay up to £1,950 for the Children’s Mega Zoo to be held again in the Neeld Hall during the summer holidays. Families will be able to meet animals and learn more about them from zookeepers.

Funding of up £1,000 was agreed to stage a production by the Watermill West Berkshire Playhouse of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde at the Neeld Hall on June 19. It also agreed to £600 for the May Day and country dancing display on May 1 and up to £800 for the pancake races on February 12.
