Local football leagues have already been badly affected this weekend.

With more heavy rain forecast, more than half of the fixtures in the Trowbridge & District League had been postponed more than 24 hours before their scheduled 2.30pm kick-off time tomorrow.

The five-division Chippenham & District Sunday League and the Mid-Wilts Youth & Minor League expect to be similarly affected with Chippenham’s Stanley Park complex and the Beversbrook facility in Calne among those venues already closed.

A Sunday League official said: “We’ve lost a fair number of fixtures already and, with more rain forecast, the problem will be even getting to some of these venues.

“It’s down to clubs or the groundsmen at venues to decide whether they can play or not but the safety of players, referees and supporters is always paramount.’’ Pitch inspections will be conducted at a number of Toolstation Western League grounds tomorrow, including Devizes Town, who are scheduled to play Corsham Town.

Chippenham Town’s Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division trip to St Albans City was still on as of Friday afternoon.

Frome Town are due to host Bedford Town in the same division, although their midweek cup match at the Aldersmith Stadium was postponed by a waterlogged pitch
