TWO candidates are going head to head in Wiltshire's police and crime commissioner election as the second and final round of vote counting gets underway

The election used the supplementary voting system – a shortened version of the alternative vote system – meaning electors were given the chance to vote for a first and then a second preference candidate.

Conservative candidate, Angus Macpherson, secured the most first preference votes across Wiltshire as a whole - 28,558 votes - with Labour's Clare Moody in second place with 16,198 votes.

Because no single candidate secured more than 50 per cent of the total first preference votes, this means the top two candidates continue to a second round and all other candidates are eliminated.

The second choice votes of everyone whose first choice has been eliminated are now being counted. Any votes for the remaining candidates will then added to their first round totals.

Whichever candidate has the most votes after these second preferences have been allocated is declared the winner.
