Beware hedgehogs hiding in Wiltshire bonfires
11:46am Tuesday 30th October 2012 in News By Craig Jones
Watch out for the hedgehogs
Neston Hedgehog Rescue is asking those organising bonfires to check that no hedgehogs are nesting in them.
Kim Goodridge, who runs the volunteer sanctuary based in Elley Green, has sent out an annual reminder to people planning to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night with a bonfire to be vigilant.
She said: “I’m asking for anyone planning on holding one to just be careful and double-check there are no hedgehogs in them. If anyone finds a hedgehog in them, they need to be wrapped up warm in something woolly or put on a hot water bottle and then brought in to Neston Hedgehog Rescue.
“If anyone wants to feed them, dried mealworms are very good or two teaspoons of cat food every three or four hours is okay too but just make sure not to feed them too much.”
Anyone who finds a stray or injured hedgehog can call Neston Hedgehog Rescue on 01225 810470.
