Chippenham shop worker set for Everest charity trek

Chippenham shop worker Jess Bye is preparing for the trip of a lifetime.

Miss Bye, 22, will be trekking to the base camp of Mount Everest to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Miss Bye, a supervisor at Clark’s shoe shop, is one of 12 people doing the trek next month. It will take about 17 days, ten of which will be trekking over a distance of 125km at high altitude.

Miss Bye, who completed a degree in sports development, said: “I’m looking forward to stepping out of the box and doing something that not a lot of people could say they have ever done. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Miss Bye, a former Sheldon School pupil who lives in Birch Grove, Chippenham, has a fundraising target of £2,600 but would like to raise more to benefit the charity.

She said: “It’s a charity that is quite close to my heart at the moment. A few members of my family and family friends have had breast cancer and anything that I can do to help the charity diagnose, treat and eradicate the disease would be good.”
