People in Devizes have been surprised to see what appear to be two coffins slipping into the Crammer.

Part of the bank of the pond has subsided and this week two wooden caskets were seen protruding from the earth. An investigation is being carried out.

Today drivers were also surprised to see a giant sculpture on the nearby roundabout that seems to have been put up without warning.

The strange looking alien with a giant red mouth is close to a pretty floral decoration of a canal boat created by town council gardeners.

Just another day in Devizes. This is what happens when the army experiments on civilians.

First, they've got to agree who actually owns it. Not as easy as it appears.

The sculpture is great. Looks like an end of term prank but fun nevertheless.

it did occur to me when the bank first collapsed that maybe this would happen but when I walked past I thought, nah all the graves are too far back. my guess is that before the wall was put up the bank was held back with wood and thats what is being seen coming out of the collapsed bank. coffins ppff I ask you!

This was just a prank by individuals wearing size 11 trainers (foot prints in the silt). Dealing with issues surrounding graveyards is a difficult and sensitive issue requiring permission to exhume interred remains. There are legal, historic & safety issued to be considered. There are no buried remains anywhere near the wall. As for the wall itself, we have know for a long time that it was unstable and we are still trying to find out exactly who owns it. The Public Cemetery was closed by Queen Victoria in the 1880's. It will also cast between £60K & £100K to repair.
Come along this Sunday when we reopen the Church and have a chat about it.
Church Warden.
