Chippenham charity's weekend of free music

Chippenham charity Kandu Arts is kicking off celebrations for its tenth year with four days of free music in the town.

Local bands and national musicians, who have all worked with the charity, will be performing at The Bear Hotel from tomorrow to Monday.

Tomorrow night up and coming Chippenham band Energy Without The Sun begins the proceedings at 8.30pm. On Saturday during the day and in the evening Liverpool folk duo Plough Lane perform.

On Sunday afternoon and evening Tony Seeger, from Westbury, will perform with his unique seraph harp guitar.

On Monday Chippenham indie duo The Care-takers round off the event.

Charity director Ed Deedigan said: "This is a chance to come and see some real local performers and some great talent from further afield.

We wanted to have an event to launch a whole load of other events to celebrate our ten years and this seemed like a perfect chance with the folk festival running at the same time. We have some really great bands and it should be excellent entertainment.'' Kandu has evolved into an independent not for profit company that designs and delivers projects all over the country.

Through art and performance it works with councils, companies and social services with clients who seldom have opportunities to develop their skills fully.

The bands

Energy Without The Sun

The awesome foursome. Westcoast at its best.

Songs of love and loss and everyday West Country living. The best thing to come out of Chippenham since the A350. Performing on Friday night at 8.30pm.

Saturday afternoon and Evening Plough Lane

This Liverpool duo have a long history together, from the politically-motivated streetband scene of the mid-80's to their current project, transmitting English folk for modern audiences. From outlandish knights to asylum seekers, Hargreaves and Bichard leave audiences with multiple visions of what it is to be English. Performing on Saturday afternoon and evening.

Tony Seeger

Not content with any old ridiculously hard to play harp guitar, Tony designed and built this truly unique instrument. For a truly unique listening experience, sit back and relax and wonder how and why... Performing on Sunday afternoon and evening.

Jon Rolls and Danny Foster

From Melksham to Martinique playing all your acoustic favourites. Performing on Monday afternoon.

The Caretakers Songs of rare honesty with an equal measure of joie de vivre. Performing on Monday evening.
