Devizes driver suffers engine blow-up
 |
| Ian Crisp in action at Prembery on Saturday before his engine blow-up |
Ian Crisp from Devizes was forced out of the latest round of the Kumho tyres BMW championship at Pembrey Circuit when his enghine blew up.
He had just worked his way into a challenging position in Saturday's first race when smoke began poruing out of his M3 E36 and he ground to a halt.
With a new lap record in the previous rounds at Rockingham, Crisp had been looking for another good weekend.
Saturday's qualifying session was held on a damp track as heavy overnight rain had fallen on the circuit. With so much power the car was difficult to get a fast time out of and Crisp ended in tenthon the grid out of the 24 cars.
Saturday afternoon's first 14-lap race began in blazing sunshinet.
Crisp was soon in the chasing pack of cars following the leader. He was gaining ground and was driving well.
With a couple of laps remaining Crisp was well placed for a high finish when smoke started pouring out of the car. The car ground to a halt and his race was over.
The car was taken back to the paddock at the end of the race and would be looked at to see what was wrong with the BMW. Crisp discovered he had blown his engine up and his racing was over for the weekend.
The car was put back onto the trailer and was brought back to Devizes where it will have a new engine installed and race prepared for the next rounds of the championship which will be at Brands Hatch in Kent in early June where Crisp will be looking to get his championship back on track.
