Residents told of consultation over gypsy sites
 |
| North Wiltshire MP James Gray speaks with residents at a meeting last night |
MORE than 160 residents gathered for a public meeting held in Chippenham last night to discuss the proposed gypsy sites in the area.
Residents from Longs Close, Hardens Mead and Stanley Lane, all of which have been earmarked for a permanent gypsy and traveller site, gathered together to form an action group against the decision.
North Wiltshire MP James Gray attended the meeting to lend his support and district councillors Christine Crisp and Alison Bucknell were on hand to answer any questions.
Action group organiser Helen Thomas, who lives alongside Stanley Lane, said: "There are still far too many questions that have been left unanswered and we are determined to get to the bottom of them.
"North Wiltshire District Council has essentially told us that they have an obligation to the government to set up this site, but surely they have an obligation to the community.
"We still feel like we are not being listened to and something needs to be done.
"Our main fear is that the public consultation period won't be done accurately - after the council's previous attempt to sweep this under the carpet, we have grave concerns."
The district council decided to scrap its original report in favour of a six week public consultation period after a huge public outcry.
The public consultation period will begin on May 9.

Public obligation to the government or just obliged to take the cash on offer to locate people that no-one seems to want to have around too close decent homeowners and the Town Centre.
Campaign on for clarity.

Same things happening in Wootton Bassett , thankfully to a group of Great Crested Newts the plans maybe scrapped .
Just a word of advice though to anyone passing comment on this subject , you have to be over politically correct when talking of " Travellers " you cant say they will destroy the area or nick anything that isnt bolted down or that them being there will decrease your house prices .
Otherwise this over PC correct pathetic website will shut you comments down .
We must accept them with open arms , let them use all of the facilities that WE pay for with our council tax .

This whole furore has been triggered by the Council's determination to evict the gypsies from Minety. They had to find alternative sites in order to win their case and the residents of the possible sites are the people who could suffer as a result.

What i find an absolute disgrace is that our REAL concerns about this are being totally ignored and removed , just like the previous post which has had 3 comments removed .

Put them on Hill Rise (there is plenty of land that could be bought at the top of Hill Rise) or anywhere in Calne.
For christ's sake keep thm away from self owned properties or anything of any value.
