Eyesore created by order of the council

| The mound of rubble dumped on a country track near power lines at Poulshot has angered residents |
A MOUND of rubble dumped in a quiet country lane is enough to cause anger among residents.
But when it was sanctioned by their parish council, villagers at Poulshot, near Devizes, felt they had good reason to complain.
Richard McLeod, who lives in nearby Corn Close, returned from working abroad to find the mound, 40 metres long and rising to three metres at its highest point.
Mr McLeod said: "I phoned Kennet District Council and they told me it had nothing to do with them. So I phoned Wiltshire County Council and eventually got out of them that the rubble is intended to surface a nearby byway.
"But they said that would not be happening until May. Three months is a terrible time for this eyesore to be sitting here.
"This is a health and safety issue. Children have been seen throwing ropes over the power lines that run over the mound and builders have now taken to fly tipping beside it."
Michael Hues, chairman of Poulshot parish council, agreed that the mound was an eyesore but that the end result would be beneficial to the community as a whole.
He said: "Most villages round about have had their byways resurfaced.
"OK, it's an eyesore at the moment but it's going as soon as it's dry enough to do the work. It all depends on the weather but I sincerely hope it won't take three months."
A county council spokesman said: "We were hoping to have done the work much earlier but the weather has been against us.
"We have been assured by the electricity company that there is no danger to children from the overhead power lines as they are well insulated. But we will fence the area off if it is at all possible."
The spokesman said the council had a licence from the Environment Agency to dump the rubble there. He said the height had already been reduced and the electricity board was now in the process of moving the wires.
The rubble was brought from the former council "art park" in New Park Street, Devizes.

I think you've just about summed up life in Poulshot there..
This is the village news until the Waddies horses arrive later in the year.

You should think yourselves lucky to have a resurfacing job in the pipeline. Our pot-holes won't get done until someone dies. You may find your mound will shrink as people take it for DIY road fixes more important than yours!
