Army lorry in collision on the A303

An army lorry carrying ammunition was in collision with a car on the A303 last night, near the Wiltshire/ Somerset border.

The male driver of a car was killed and a nine-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital following the collision at around 4:15 pm yesterday.

Police the report that the boy was to undergo urgent surgery and his condition is very poorly.

The A303 was closed between Willoughby Hedge and the Wiltshire boundary in the Wylye Valley for over 6 hours last night, as police investigated the scene.

The Ministry of Defence said that the vehicle belonged to a civilian contractor working for the armed forces.
