Cars recalled over handbrake fault
Around 80,000 UK cars have been recalled because of a handbrake fault,
it was announced today.
The recall affects Honda Civic models built between November 2006 and
November 2007 and follows incidents of cars moving when parked.
Made at Honda's plant at Swindon the Civics in question can
have problems if the release button is knocked when the handbrake is
activated.
A Honda UK spokesman said: "There have been about 20 incidents in the UK
and we have now improved the handbrake design.
"We have written to the owners of the affected models offering them the
chance to bring the car in and have a new handbrake fitted free of
charge."

Compare this response to that of Vauxhall, who have simply denied the problem exists on their cars. Good work from Honda!

I should add that by 'deny' I mean, they say they've found no fault, but have issued a sticker to 279,000 owners telling them to leave the car in gear just in case. As with Hondas handbrake they are now telling you to operate the brake [italic]without[/italic]depressing the button. Thus flyimng in the face of anything you were ever taught about applying the handbrake.

If i recall a few years ago the Rav 4 had the same handbrake issue maybe we should all drive automatics the handbrake is pointless in those because park does all the work.
