I HAVE learned that Christopher Caswill is retiring from being an active member of our county council at the next election.
He has performed very well for those who have supported his election, particularly in becoming an Independent councillor rather than remaining a member of a national political party.
I will personally be sad when he retires because of his excellent performance in local active policy. However, I am sure that he has earned his retirement.
One of my main reasons is that I do not see why active national governmental political parties in the House of Commons should be represented by councillors in local town and county governments.
I do believe that local government politicians should be in support of matters that are vital and interesting for town and county residents, and will not always support national political party policies, which may not be good in local government.
