I WAS very heartened to see the results of the great litter clean-up in and around the town the other week by the previous mayor and a large willing band of volunteers.
But, and there is always a but, all that good work is bound to be undone as the creators of the initial problem continue to thoughtlessly start the whole process again.
Laws are already in place to fine people for dropping litter but what is the local council track record for successfully bringing these litter louts to account? With no deterrent seen to be working, the can’t-be-bothered lifestyle will continue.
Once your newspaper starts printing lists and lists of people being fined week after week for dropping litter, maybe, just maybe we will have towns and villages to be proud of.
