WHILST not representing a significant amount in my overall council tax bill, the charge for adult social care is shown on my statement as having increased by three per cent from last year.
In fact, it has increased by over 150 per cent, ie up from £35.30 in 2016/17 to £90.39 for 2017/18.
My questioning of the figure resulted in the supply of a calculation which, whilst giving the three per cent figure, would not have been able to be established from information contained within the council tax statement.
In my opinion, the percentage increase shown was misleading and was disguising of the true figure.
It brought to mind what occurred not so long ago when council tax levels were seemingly held or increased only marginally – only for the green waste collection service to be taken out of the total amount and charged for separately.
