WHAT rubbish Peter Foster writes (letters, March 23). He says it’s estimated 51.5 per cent of the Devizes constituency voted to leave the EU, then goes on to say that 60 per cent didn’t!
If I understand him correctly, based on the turnout at the referendum, only 40 per cent of us said ‘leave’, which is creating statistics to support one’s argument! He’s seems to be implying that those who didn’t vote would have chosen ‘remain’ which, of course, is nonsense!
Had there been a 100 per cent turnout, the likely result would still have been ‘leave’, but we’ll never know.
What I would say to those who want to stay but did nothing about it, is “tough!”.
You were given the opportunity to influence the result but, clearly, weren’t bothered, so stop complaining and accept the choice of the majority who did exercise their right to vote! It’s called democracy.
Maybe we should adopt the Australian system, where voting is compulsory, then there’d be no cause for whingeing.
Isn’t it time that this topic was now put to bed? The decision has been made and no amount of questioning the whys and wherefores is going to change this.
