FOR over 40 years I used to buy the Gazette & Herald without fail. However, over the past couple or so years the letters page has turned me off. I only buy now about once a month to catch up on local news.
The reason I stopped buying it every week was the constant barrage of propaganda written in your letters pages by Dr Brian Mathew and the last edition was beyond belief with two letters from this gentleman which were both works of fiction. How on Earth can you print two letters from the same person on the same day?
I would not be so annoyed if they contained a scintilla of truth. In his letter on page 52 he paints a very different picture to the true facts. I’m not a Conservative but do acknowledge that Theresa May offered to put EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU beyond the negotiations and was rebuffed by France and Germany.
In his letter on page 53, he is attempting to instil fear in the readers of the letters page with nonsense about Vauxhall. The CEO of buyers has already assured that there will be no closures. He refuses to accept the will of the people. Let’s not forget that the Government’s pre-referendum leaflet sent to every household stated that it was a once-in-a-generation chance to vote on this issue of remaining in or leaving the EU. Dr Mathew is now attempting the Irish solution employed by the EU of making the people vote again and again until they lose their will and vote the way the EU wishes.
The Office For Budget Responsibility confirmed only on the eighth of this month that it expects the economy to grow by two per cent rather than the 1.4 per cent it forecast and, at the same time, with the economy growing faster than they predicted, slashed their borrowing forecasts for the next five years.
Can we please hear less political posturing from this gentleman until we actually get to an election season.
