I WAS surprised to read a market trader in Bradford on Avon was threatened with a fine for not wanting to put up his stall on the Thursday that Storm Doris hit.
What if someone was hit by flying debris, would the council have supported him in the event of any injury?
The article also states that a Wiltshire Council spokesman said an officer had checked Devizes, Bradford on Avon and Wilton to check if it was safe and that all three went ahead without incident.
I was in Devizes at approximately 9.30am and there were only two fruit and vegetable stalls that had chanced their luck and they didn’t last long as trays and boxes were blowing across the road and parts of the stalls were being blown down, so I know for a fact that that particular market did not carry on as normal. To threaten market traders with a fine in such conditions is most unfair.
