WOULD somebody kindly tell me, please, the difference between a mobile phone mast and a mobile phone antenna?
In the Gazette & Herald the week before last, concern was being expressed by the residents of Box, and quite rightly so, about the perceived health risks resulting from the proposed installation of a mobile phone mast near to their homes.
Villagers have demanded answers to their worries about the possible dangers. The controversial planning application has now been deferred.
Coincidentally, in the same edition of the Gazette we read that an application to fit six mobile phone antennas within the St Peter’s Church tower in Marlborough has been given the seal of approval by the town council.
I would like to question the health issue regarding such an installation, which I understand will be inside the bell chamber of the tower.
St Peter’s Church tower with its 137 steps climb to the top and stunning views is a popular tourist attraction. The route to the top actually passes through the bell chamber.
Is there an absolute guarantee that there is no health risk whatsoever arising from those antennas to the many children and adults who will be passing within a few feet of them as they climb up the tower?
Should we be concerned? Like the residents of Box, without such assurance I believe it would be extremely foolhardy, if not dangerous, to proceed any further with the application.
