I READ with considerable disbelief the plan to install traffic lights at the roundabout junction of Windsor Drive and London Road Devizes as reported in the Gazette & Herald recently.
This wouldn’t work and would make an already horrendous traffic congestion and air pollution situation even worse. Simply too much house building, aligned with Devizes being a rat run for traffic from elsewhere, has created a problem that just won’t be solved by imposing more barriers and delays.
Beverley in Yorkshire suffered a massive traffic light failure in 2015 yet to the great surprise of all involved traffic flows improved – http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3273391
A plea to Wiltshire Council – please rethink this potential folly. Otherwise, I predict that within a short time of installing these traffic lights wisdom will step in and result in them being removed again.
Spare a thought for those people living within the growing housing developments toward the ever-increasing encroachment on Roundway Village – anyone wanting to head into the town at present at least has the option of turning left and making a U-turn at the existing roundabout.
