I have never written to the Gazette and Herald before so I suppose there is a first time for everything.
I am, however, wishing to put pen to paper to express my admiration and gratitude to the brave band of litter pickers who, on Saturday, suffered zero temperatures, whilst volunteering  their time and energy to pick up the cast off items dropped by Chippenham’s passers-by.
The location of their endeavours, along the river bank and Island Park, was particularly pointed in that this same area is looked upon by Wiltshire councillors in their meeting rooms and council employees poring over their computer screens in the council offices.
So appalled have I become by the amount and variance of litter seen around the town, particularly form Sainsbury’s on Station Hill to the gates and grounds of the Wiltshire College, that I, too, will be volunteering for the next litter pick at Donkey Fields between Sheldon School and the Sports Grounds.
Will you have the social conscience to join me, especially local residents and users of the areas?
See you there – Saturday March 4 at 10am
May I also take this opportunity to give some public recognition to the French lady, who most Sunday afternoons, can be seen with wheelie bin and safe pick tongs, collecting the rubbish along the roadside and gardens of the Wiltshire College site on Cocklebury Road, bien fait vous.
