Poor care home site
YOUR recent item on page seven concerning the Hayward Care Home brought back many memories, bad ones I’m sad to say, affecting their previous site.
Over many years weekly visits were made and the stench of urine was apparent in corridors and rooms on nearly every visit, with bathing and hair washing periods not being adhered to – the latter being carried out by my wife every time she visited.
Discussions with management and staff made no difference.
It seemed that the only time the place smelled sweet and looked tidy was in readiness for a visit by the inspectors, the date which was of course announced well in advance.
It is good to see that the new home is much improved on the old but I worry that announced inspections reflect standards achieved during the inspection period only, whereas unannounced inspections would reveal what actually is happening day-to-day.
