PEOPLE across the South West looking for a New Year’s resolution are being invited to join Parkinson’s UK in theirs.
Walk for Parkinson’s launched yesterday and the charity has resolved to make it their biggest series yet.
They want to recruit as many walkers as possible for the events in the South West at Arlington Court in Devon (May 7), Wilton House in Wiltshire (July 16), Port Eliot House and Gardens in Cornwall (June 11), and Ashton Court in Bristol (September 3).
Each walk offers a range of distances and terrains, so there is something to suit everyone from those looking for a leisurely stroll to keen walkers who prefer a bigger challenge.
Dave Clark, Sky Sports presenter and keen supporter of Parkinson’s UK is the Champion of Walking for Parkinson’s UK. as Since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s himself in 2011 at the age of 44, Dave has found that walking is a fantastic way to keep fit.
Dave explains: “In 2016, my resolution was to complete my own 200-mile coast to coast walk for Parkinson’s UK. It was tough but the feeling when I crossed the finish line was fantastic.
“This year, our resolution is to make it the biggest series yet for Walk for Parkinson’s.
So if you’re looking for a New Year’s resolution that’s achievable and rewarding, sign up to Walk for Parkinson’s in the South West and join us in our resolution, because with every step we take and every pound that we raise, we get closer to a cure.”
It is the third year for the Walk for Parkinson’s series. Last year the charity had more than 3,800 people sign up to walk and between them they raised a fantastic £344,000. In the South West over 200 walkers took part and raised £17,132.
All money raised by Walk for Parkinson’s will be used to help find better treatments, and ultimately a cure, as well as providing support and information for the 127,000 people affected by Parkinson’s across the UK.
For the first time this year, some of the events will also offer a running route at the same time as the walk. To find out more and to find a walk near you, see parkinsons.org.uk/walkforparkinsons.
