FOR the third consecutive year Chippenham operated a safe zone within the town centre to offer additional medical care for December 17 and 23 and New Year’s Eve.
We were delighted once again to help and support volunteers from the street pastors, St John Ambulance and South Western Ambulance Service, once again highlighting the value of strong partnership working and the strategic part volunteers play within community safety.
When joining the evening patrols it was both reassuring and pleasing to see well-lit streets, a visible police presence both on foot and in cars, the deployment of the mobile CCTV van and door staff at many of the venues, as well as taxi marshals on the taxi rank.
Safe zones were not only operated in Chippenham and in Salisbury but also up and down the country, all playing a vital part in helping support vital A & E departments and letting them focus on emergency care rather than dealing with many party revellers with minor issues and also at the same time saving the NHS money.
Community safety is something everyone can play their part in to ensure our local communities can enjoy themselves safely.
Even small things like disposing of your litter properly or showing respect for your local area can play a key part.
Finally, we would like to thank all those who continue to regularly help with our safety, whether it is in the voluntary sector, the police, fire and rescue or ambulance service. Your dedication and commitment to our safety is something we all should be very thankful for.
