DEREK Angell of Chippenham Lions Club in the letters page, and Jessica Wells’ article about Calne Lions in last week’s paper prompted me to write in praise and thanks of the amazing support Devizes Lions get.
We, too, have raised many thousands of pounds in the last month and received some wonderful comments from residents.
They know how much care we take to ensure the money they give us is allocated so that every pound goes only to the most deserving.
I calculate that our three clubs alone have raised well over £30,000 in the last month, and this is only possible with the goodwill of local people. You can reckon these sorts of sums are repeated again and again all over the country, and many, many parts of the world.
I’m also sure that it is not only Calne club that would like more volunteers. So would we. We’re on the lookout for any person with a few hours to spare to come and join us.
Being part of the largest service club in the world is absolutely great. But don’t take our word for it, try us out. Get in touch, we all have websites and dedicated phone numbers.
This year we celebrate 100 years of Lions Clubs, as the first was started in Chicago in the depths of the First World War and the need for us has not diminished since 1917; it actually is increasing year on year. We want more of you to participate and follow our motto: ‘We Serve.’
