Preview: Calamity Jane Devizes Light Operatic Society Dauntsey's School OH the Deadwood Stage is heading on down to the Memorial Hall at Dauntsey's School in West Lavington next month as Devizes Light Operatic Society performs the classic musical Calamity Jane.

The film starring Doris Day was a smash hit in the 1950s and songs like The Deadwood Stage, Windy City and Black Hills of Dakota are still memorable favourites.

Society stalwart Julie Maidment stars in the title role and other principals include Paul Morgan as Wild Bill Hickock, Cassandra Smith as Katie and Sam Stevens as Lieutenant Danny Gilmartin.

But, as usual, the true star of the show will be the society's chorus of dedicated local amateur singers.

Kim Pearce is directing her first major musical production for DLOS while Victoria Winchcombe is undertaking the musical direction for the first time.

For the first time the society has entered its production for the prestigious Rose Bowl award.

Adjudicators will be in the audience for one of the performances.

Performances are on April 9 to 12 at 7.30pm and tickets are on sale at Devizes Books (01380) 725944.
