Preview: A Midsummer Night's Dream Wharf Theatre Devizes Arguably known as one of Shakespeare's sunniest comedies, even though the majority of the play takes place during the night, it involves a confusion of lovers, fairies, local workmen and courtiers.

Young Helena loves Demetrius who loves Hermia who loves Lysander. Duke Theseus has conquered Hippolyta. Titania, Queen of the Fairies, has fallen out of love with Oberon, and fallen in love with an ass. Universal disharmony reigns.

Puck, a mischievous spirit, uses magic to further complicate matters whilst a group of local workmen are trying to rehearse a play about tragic love. Ultimately, harmony is restored and all seems but a dream.

Director, Mike Polack, a local English and drama teacher, found directing his cast of 20 both fascinating and daunting as The Dream is a production about which many people have pre-conceived ideas as to how it should be played.

The play opens tomorrow night and runs until Saturday March 15.
