Comedy Festival spreads laughter all round the town

2:26pm Thursday 26th June 2008

The Wyvern Theatre Swindon and other venues around the town will be alive with laughter all next week as some of the country's top comedians and many promising newcomers, take to the stage for the Swindon Comedy Festival.

Sean Lock, the 8 out of 10 Cats team captain and the first comedian to perform at Wembley, makes his Wyvern debut on Saturday, fresh from the success of his self-penned television show 15 Storeys High on BBC2.

Jimmy Carr will be appearing at the Oasis Leisure Centre on Monday June 30. While Jimmy takes over at the Oasis, the Wyvern Theatre will be hosting the lovable and laughable Rabbi Lionel Blue, with his gentle tales of human behaviour.

Innovative comedian and cartoonist Howard Read introduces his mini-me sidekick Little Howard as they present two shows - one for the children and one for the adults. Big Howard and Little Howard were the highlight of last year's Royal Variety Performance and were nominated for the prestigious Perrier Award in 2003.

Deborah Frances White presents an instructional show entitled How to Get Almost Anyone to Sleep with You - a light yet big hearted evening of helpful hints for the unlucky in love.

There is also musical comedy with Pluck.
