preview Mice on Skates Bristol tobacco factory

THEY'RE fast and furry and a little bit blurry! Lock up your cheeses, the Mice on Skates are heading to Tobacco Factory Theatres this summer.

This dynamic show for young children aged two and over tells the story of two ingenious rodents, Brainy Mouse and Brawny Mouse who invent roller skates to help them swipe cheese.

The skates are marvellously effective, leaving marauding cats in a spin. In no time at all our squeaky heroes are off on a quest to find the world's greatest cheese helped along by a string of international rodents and creatures. It's a fabulously cheesy adventure!

The story was written by company director Sylvia Hunt.

She said: "I'm a big fan of both Beatrix Potter and the Muppets and Mice on Skates is a sort of mash-up of both. It certainly was a lot of fun to make."

Mice on Skates is the latest show by Bath based Fly in a Pie Puppet Theatre a company that was formed in 2013 by Bristol born puppet maestro Marc Parrett (founder and former artistic director of Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company) and performance artist Sylvia Hunt.

"We set up Fly in a Pie to present anarchic family performances in up-close spaces just like the Brewery Theatre at Tobacco Factory Theatres," said show director Marc Parrett.

"I'm particularly proud of this production; it's a gentle story with some clever twists and turns and it still makes me smile every time I watch it – even though I've seen it hundreds of times!"

The show runs from August 4-9, 11am & 2pm. Tickets, costing £7 from www.tobaccofactorytheatres.com, the box office on 0117 902 0344 or by emailing tickets@tobaccofactorytheatres.com
