CALNE'S very own comedian Helen Sorren will take centre stage next month as she will perform at the hugely-popular Edinburgh Fringe Festival with comedy partner Samantha Baines.

The comedy duo will have a nightly slot at the three week arts festival from August 7-31 in a show called 'Sam and Helen: Out There' which sees the pair encompass stand up comedy, sketches and silly chats over what is out there in the world and what makes their lives seem a bit more inconsequential.

The show follows on from their highly-successful comedy sketch 'Busy Battle' which went viral on the internet for its wit towards the common talk between women.

Helen grew up in Calne and from a young age, she immediately knew her future was destined in performing.

"I think my love for theatre and performing definitely started when I was at school and it wasn't until I got older than I realised comedy was the way forward," she said.

After staring in productions for the Heddington Amateur Dramatic Society in places such as the Wolf Theatre in Devizes and the Arc Theatre in Trowbridge, Helen went on to attend St Augustine's College where she was head girl.

In a bid to save money to attend the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, Helen took up a number of part-time cleaning and waitressing jobs in Calne including at the Talbot Inn.

After Lord Lansdowne and his charitable trust supported her towards the cost of Guildhall, Helen bid for stardom in the capital which led her to meet Samantha and ever since their comedic styles have found a way of complimenting one another.

"We don't take ourselves seriously and it is a really funny and girly take on comedy," she said.

"The show is a real mix of the two of us writing things together. It is really exciting and the thing with comedy is that you have to test your jokes and see if they work so we've been doing that recently. Also because a lot of my jokes involve a play on pants, we've been provided with props by ethically sourced underwear company WhoMadeYourPants."

Helen has had a string of awards for her comedic ways including Leicester Square New Act of the Year, Golden Jester and Funny Women semi finalist 2014.

The pair currently host Sam and Helen: Ladies What Brunch on Hoxton Radio and with guests like Larry Lamb and Blonde Electra the show has reached top 10 in both the comedy and interview charts on Mixcloud.

Helen's parents who still live in Calne will be making the trip to the Scottish capital come the Fringe festival.

"My parents have always been supportive of me and when I was younger; my mum spent most of her time driving me to shows or theatres."
