Prolific as PG Wodehouse was, and although he had his work produced on Broadway, he never managed to achieve getting Jeeves on stage in the West End in his lifetime. Now, after a year in London, it is touring the UK.

The plot of Perfect Nonsense revolves around a silver creamer and an entanglement of relationships, with the cast spending a lot of time talking to the audience (as opposed to inter-acting with each other) with remarkable energy and precision.

On Monday night Joel Sams was playing Bertie Wooster. On stage for the whole time, he was word perfect and gave a splendid performance. Much credit too goes to John Gordon Sinclair for both his straight-face as Jeeves and the collection of other parts he played, in particular the female roles, once both male and female simultaneously, dashing from one side of the stage to the other.

Both he and Robert Goodale managed some pretty swift costume changes too and never once used the wrong voice for their many characters.

The performance was pure Wodehouse, giving us laughs by the bucket load. The audience loved it and gave a resounding appreciation at the end, not least for the 20s-style dance routine given at the end of the show.
