Gazette reporter Lewis Cowen will celebrate his forthcoming retirement by reprising his successful one-man show about Hollywood legend Samuel Goldwyn.
Cowen won critical acclaim for his impersonation of the movie mogul when he performed his own script at the Wharf Theatre six years ago and, as he approaches his 65th birthday, he will play it again in the Gallery at Devizes Books on Friday and Saturday, May 30 and 31, at 7.30pm.
He said: “I was a professional actor many years ago and played the part of Louis B Mayer in a musical about Judy Garland in the West End.
“But I look more like Sam Goldwyn, so looked into the possibilities of doing a one-man show about him.
“He is a fascinating character. He never got on with his business partners but was greatly loved by everyone else.
“He was one of the few independent producers in Hollywood at the time it was being run by the four big studios. He produced some very popular movies, including the film of West Side Story.”
