Marlborough Jazz Fest: Julie Felix

Although an audience member fainted during Julie Felix' performance, most managed to stay cool and hydrated. Although an audience member fainted during Julie Felix' performance, most managed to stay cool and hydrated.

AFTER an evening performance in the crowded back room of the Sun Inn on Friday, Julie Felix launched Saturday's performance at the same venue by launching a campaign for bigger rooms in future.

"We are organising a protest," she said. "We are going to ask Nicholas Fogg if we can have a bigger venue next year where everyone can sit down."

And the necessity of her call was proven half way through the gig when one audience member fainted in the heat of the packed room.

But, despite the cramped conditions, the septuagenarian was on top form, providing a range of rousing protest songs for the audience to sing along to.

Having celebrated her 70th birthday last month, the long-term performer, who has worked with the likes of Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, proved that, in her case, age really does bring wisdom, with several of her own philosophical songs, the lyrics and her explanations of them touching on many emotions.
