Quartet keeps audience spellbound

The Doric Quartet came to play to a capacity audience in the town hall last Thursday, fresh from winning first prize in the prestigious Osaka international chamber music competition in Japan.

From the first phrases of Haydn's Quartet in G it was clear that we were in for a treat and this was emphasised in Beethoven's Op 74 Quartet.

They played throughout with a breathtaking ensemble and musicality, easily conveying their wonderful interpretation of the music, and feelings for it, to a spellbound audience.

Tim Orpen joined the Doric for Brahms's Clarinet Quintet and together they gave a beautiful and sensitive performance of this emotionally intense work.

This was truly a concert to remember.

It might also be mentioned that they commented on the excellent acoustics of the Assembly Room in the town hall and considered it a perfect venue in which to play chamber music.
