Sam Claflin is reportedly the frontrunner for one of the most coveted roles in the upcoming Hunger Games sequel.

The British actor - who was last seen in Snow White And The Huntsman - is the top choice to play Finnick in Catching Fire and an offer isn't far off, according to Variety.

The character is one of the young 'tributes' forced to enter a fight to the death alongside Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) in a specially constructed arena.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that The Fisher King's Amanda Plummer has been cast as Wiress, while Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub is the frontrunner to play her fellow veteran tribute, Beetee.

Catching Fire will be directed by Francis Lawrence and is due to start shooting in September.
