Preview: Saturday May 7, The Bell by the Green, Devizes

Despite having been gigging for over 20 years, Wootton Bassett’s 2 Sick Monkeys play their first ever show in Devizes on Saturday.

Despite being a bit on the ‘mature’ side, with a tag line of Small Outfit, BIG Sound, the band have set a precedent on the scene by being relevant, touring hard and providing three-chord punk rock, despite pushing 40.

Having toured Europe eight times and travelled all over the UK relentlessly, the band have racked up some amazing shows with the likes of the Subhumans (twice), Anti-Nowhere League (twice), GBH, Discharge, The Varukers, Total Chaos (twice), UK Subs, Inner Terrestrials (four times), The Buzzcocks, Goldblade, 999, Citizen Fish, Sham 69, Neville Staples, The Vibrators, Sonic Boom Six and The Computers and more.

The main billed support for the Sheer Music-organised gig comes from Salisbury based noise-core quadruplet Dakota Skyline.

Having started out without a vocalist, their sound has developed over the past year into a heavy wall of noise. The band are currently looking to expand the line-up with the addition of a dedicated vocalist. Local act of the night are Lavington’s The Score. Despite being a band who are up there with Story Cut Short in the drama stakes, this five- piece really are very good, creating an epic sound, breakdowns to gang chants, great guitars and lots of good noise.

This gig has been a long time coming, and connections are hoping for a return to form that will cement some serious output by the band.

Openers for the night are Swindon-based epic sounding, dual-layered guitar band De La Rosa.

This band only played their first show earlier this year, but have already racked up gigs with Sailors and Don Brocon.

In Samual Schwenk they have a frontman as confident as he is charismatic. Imagine the dancing of Talking Heads with the sound of Oceansize and you’re on your way there.

Usual Sheer Bell gig rules apply: over-16s only, ID required for alcohol. Tickets £4 on the door, 8pm-midnight.

Physical copies of the Sailors EP will be available at this show, priced £3 or £5 for gig entry and CD combined.
