DJs are raring to go for Swindon's big weekend

WITH just over a month to go before Radio 1’s Big Weekend comes to Swindon, its top DJs are raring to hit the town.

It is thought that the preparations for the event will begin next week at the site in Lydiard Park.

Weekend presenter Nihal has said he can’t wait to get stuck in.

Speaking at the BBC Radio 1 headquarters in London last week he said: “What is brilliant about the Big Weekend is that it comes to places which don’t usually have big gigs or festivals.

“It is great for people that are living in Swindon, even if you dont get a ticket all of these big name acts will just be in the town.

“All of us here cannot wait to come to Swindon and get started. It is going to amazing.”

The event, which has been held for the last six years, will attract up to 40,000 people over the weekend.

Previous headlining acts have included Madonna, Destiny’s Child, The Kooks, Usher, Black Eyed Peas and Pink.

Afternoon DJ Scott Mills is also looking forward to coming to Wiltshire for the weekend. He said: “We are all really looking forward to it. It’s so exciting.”

Presenter Edith Bowman said: “The Big Weekend for me is the official start to the summer of festivals for me. “I'm most looking forward to getting to meet some Swindon listeners.

“That's another great thing about Radio 1's Big Weekend, getting out and about to meet the people who listen to Radio 1 instead of speaking to them from a basement. And the biggest thing - it’s free.

“Please don't be angry if you don’t get tickets, we are limited to how many people can come and it would spoil the whole point if we made it any bigger.

The full line up of headlining acts will be announced on April 14 and ticket registration is the next day..
