Tankus The Henge frontman Jaz Delorean is back in Devizes tomorrow night, in his other incarnation as the UK’s only gypsy jazz pianist.
He gave a fantastic Devizes Festival performance last year, and this time will be performing a jazzy, soulful piano set of dark Tom Waits-esque numbers, in which his misadventures and musings are instantly captivating.
His whisky-soaked voice perfectly complements his smooth and effortless style of playing, and the European gypsy style of his cabaret instantly transports you to a Parisian back room, full of swirling cigarette smoke, where this slightly raggedy, Bohemian character serenades fellow drinkers.
Anyone looking to bring their partner for a romantic night out pre-Valentine’s should beware – Jaz’s publicity material warns: “He’ll not only steal your heart but also your girl.”
Doors 8pm, Medi Leonard 8.45-9.15pm, Chris Worthy 9.30-10pm, Jaz Delorean 10.15pm. Free entry, as with most Sheer Music gigs here, over-16s only.
