STAFF, pupils and parents last week celebrated the success of Sutton Benger Primary School with a balloon launch.

They tied a personal prayer or wish to each of the rainbow coloured balloons which were launched from the school field.

The balloons were chosen to represent the achievements of the school which came out of special measures in February.

The balloons also symbolised the school's hopes for a bright future, said headteacher Suzanne Lloyd.

Mrs Lloyd joined the school in September 2005 after it was placed in special measures following an Ofsted report. She said it had been a privilege to be part of its transformation.

She paid tribute to pupils, staff, governors and parents and described the balloon release as a fantastic day which was full of emotion.

"Some of the wishes and prayers for the school and those connected to it were particularly moving," she said. "We were thrilled that so many people were able to celebrate with us."

The balloon launch followed a service at All Saints Church led by the Archdeacon of Malmesbury, the Venerable Alan Hawker.

Gilbert the Gator from the Gazette and Herald and local councillor Jane Scott were also present last Thursday.

Mrs Lloyd said that a follow up Ofsted report in February had noted that the 138-pupil school now provides an exciting, inspiring and creative curriculum.

The report also referred to the excellent spiritual development of pupils and the quality of care, guidance and support that they receive.

Mrs Lloyd said: "It was wonderful to mark such an important milestone in the life of the school and to celebrate the hard work that has gone into getting the school where it is today."
